Dynasty Buys & Sells - May 2025
Chew highlights 8 Veteran Buys & Sells on the heels of dynasty rookie drafts.
You are likely on the clock for or basking in the glory that is your dynasty rookie draft. Now that the 2025 rookie picks have been replaced with player names, what do we do with our current rosters and future picks? I have four buys and four sells in dynasty with a trio of trades that I fully endorse.
*Trades sourced from Dynasty-Daddy.com based on: 2 QB, PPR, 0-1pt TE Premium, 8-12 team, 8-12 starters.
BUY #1
Rashee Rice (WR)
Rashee Rice is still working his way back from his Week 4 knee injury that abruptly ended his 2024 season. Rice amassed 21.6 fantasy points per game across his first three games, reaching an apex of 29.1 points in Week 3 as the WR-3. Dynasty managers felt vindicated that had Rice as a “Buy” heading into 2024 and the sentiment is the same for 2025.
As long as he is healthy, Rice enters 2025 as the Chiefs’ WR-1 with Xavier Worthy and and Hollywood Brown as the main supporting cast (no slight to Jalen Royals). The Chiefs’ offense is a well-oiled machine with Patrick Mahomes and Andy Reid at the helm and Travis Kelce could very well be entering his final season. Not since Tyreek Hill has Mahomes had a clear WR-1 like Rice. So in dynasty, buy!
TRADE #1: Rashee Rice ←→ James Cook
TRADE #2: Rashee Rice ←→ Zay Flowers + ‘26 1st Round Pick
TRADE #3: Rashee Rice + ‘26 3rd Round Pick ←→ Sam LaPorta
SELL #1
George Pickens (WR)
When the Steelers traded for DK Metcalf the possibility that they would trade Pickens became more apparent. Pickens enters a Cowboys’ receiver room that has been in search of a WR-2 since Amari Cooper left town. And as a secondary option for Dak Prescott, Pickens is poised to play for the best quarterback of his career.
Pickens is going from a passing offense that was 29th in pass attempts to one that was 3rd in pass attempts in 2024. The last Cowboy WR-2 to eclipse 100 targets in a season was Cooper in 2021 and Pickens has the opportunity to be the first since then. But if Pickens were to do so, does that really elevate his fantasy value from being the number one target in Pittsburgh? I think his fantasy production will be at best comparable to 2024 but I do not think that matches the perceived boost in dynasty value with a better offense.
TRADE #1: George Pickens ←→ ‘26 1st Round Pick
TRADE #2: George Pickens + ‘26 3rd Round Pick ←→ Chris Olave
TRADE #3: George Pickens ←→ Jack Bech + ‘26 2nd Round Pick
BUY #2
Chuba Hubbard (RB)
It took a couple of weeks but Hubbard fully overtook the backfield in Carolina in 2024 and finished with seven top-10 RB finishes on the year. The Panthers thanked Hubbard for his hard work with a four year contract extension in an improving Dave Canales led offense. Hubbard also nearly doubled his touchdowns and had a slight uptick in receptions showcasing his ability as an all-around threat at running back.
The offseason acquisition of Rico Dowdle should serve more as a compliment than an impediment to Hubbard’s touches in 2025. And the Panthers should be playing closer games to be able to commit to the run game for longer and increase their run play percentage from bottom third to at least league average. I would be looking to move on from middling receivers and/or rookie rookie picks to get a set it and forget it back in Hubbard.
TRADE #1: Chuba Hubbard ←→ ‘26 2nd Round Pick + ‘26 3rd Round Pick
TRADE #2: Chuba Hubbard + ‘26 3rd Round Pick ←→ Justin Fields
TRADE #3: Chuba Hubbard ←→ Jayden Reed
SELL #2
D’Andre Swift (RB)
Swift has had a fairly consistent, albeit frustrating, career from a fantasy standpoint. Injuries were a hinderance early in his career in Detroit and there was not much improvement with a change of scenery to Philadelphia or Chicago. With this as the backdrop, many were expecting the Bears to draft/sign Swift’s successor but as of this article his status as the RB-1 in Chicago is safe.
While the running back room not too crowded, new head coach Ben Johnson quickly made his mark by drafting Colston Loveland and Luther Burden III. The sheer opportunity, at the moment, for Swift should serve as a selling point to a fellow dynasty manager. But outside of his opportunity, I do not see much of any upside for Swift and I’m moving him for the right offer.
TRADE #1: D’Andre Swift + ‘26 4th Round Pick ←→ ‘26 2nd Round Pick
TRADE #2: D’Andre Swift ←→ Tyrone Tracy + ‘26 3rd Round Pick
TRADE #3: D’Andre Swift + Anthony Richardson ←→ Jared Goff
BUY #3
Brock Purdy (QB)
Purdy enters the 2025 season as a very rich man following his $53M/year deal; however, it’s important to note that $82M of his $265M is not guaranteed. The former Mr. Irrelevant is poised for another finish at a top-half quarterback in fantasy and there is great value in that security. The 49ers shipped off offensive weapons Deebo Samuel and Jordan Mason this offseason but there is still much to be optimistic about for Purdy and Shanahan.
Most any superflex dynasty roster would be fortunate to have Purdy as the QB-2 and there is even a place for him as the best quarterback on a dynasty roster. And as an added bonus, the 49ers are poised to have one of the easiest schedules. Whether or not you think Purdy is only a system quarterback (I don’t), the system is damn good and one that I’m investing in.
TRADE #1 (MINE): Brock Purdy + ‘26 3rd Round Pick ←→ Bryce Young + Jalen Milroe
TRADE #2: Brock Purdy ←→ ‘26 1st Round Pick
TRADE #3: Brock Purdy ←→ DK Metcalf + ‘26 2nd Round Pick
SELL #3
Sam Darnold (QB)
Darnold’s comeback season did not end on a strong note in 2024 but he was still rewarded with a modest $33.5M/year contract by the Seahawks. I am not optimistic about Darnold thriving in what is an overall worse situation compared to last year in Minnesota. So despite my optimism of new offensive coordinator Klint Kubiak unlocking the Seattle offense, it will be an uphill climb with Darnold under duress.
There is dynasty value to Darnold as one of the 32 starting quarterbacks; however, I do not anticipate he will be the starter by the end of the contract and quite possibly even by next season. While there is still refinement needed to his game, the recently drafted Jalen Milroe has intriguing upside and time to sit back and learn. So sell Darnold while you still can in dynasty.
TRADE #1: Sam Darnold ←→ ‘26 1st Round Pick
TRADE #2: Sam Darnold + ‘26 1st Round Pick + ‘26 3rd Round Pick ←→ Justin Herbert
TRADE #3: Sam Darnold + Rome Odunze + Devin Neal + ‘27 2nd Round Pick ←→ Jared Goff + Rashee Rice + ‘26 4th Round Pick
BUY #4
Pat Freiermuth (TE)
The Steelers’ offense is looking a little different with a patchwork QB room (sans Aaron Rodgers) and the injection of DK Metcalf followed by the rejection of George Pickens. One constant that will serve (insert starting quarterback here) well is Pat Freiermuth. I expect this offense will still flow through the rushing attack but Freiermuth is primed to yet again have the second highest target share in Pittsburgh.
The biggest wildcard for Freiermuth, and most tight ends for that matter, is his touchdown opportunities. But considering his safe floor of targets and weekly touchdown upside, Freiermuth offers fantasy upside and a quality dynasty investment once the quarterback position is elevated. I am buying wherever I can as other dynasty managers are distracted by the desirability of big-name veterans or the allure of rookie upside.
TRADE #1: Pat Freiermuth ←→ Keon Coleman
TRADE #2: Pat Freiermuth + ‘26 4th Round Pick ←→ Kyle Pitts
TRADE #3: Pat Freiermuth + Chuba Hubbard ←→ Jameson Williams + Najee Harris
SELL #4
Kyle Pitts (TE)
The former first round pick, Kyle Pitts, is entering a contract year in 2025 and this is the last hope for most dynasty managers. I am less optimistic for Pitts to recapture his rookie-year magic, much like Juju Smith-Schuster never recreated his standout sophomore season. The quarterback situation is looking up in Atlanta via Michael Penix Jr. and there has been optimism from Falcon’s offensive coordinator Zac Robinson but for me that means a selling window.
If you can find another dynasty manager that still believes in Pitts’ upside then sell, sell, sell! Considering the volatility of the tight end position in fantasy outside of a few names, I would much prefer streaming the position and moving Pitts for future draft capital and/or upside that I can believe in. The biggest sell window for Pitts is behind us but there may still be an opportunity to move him so get out there and trade.
TRADE #1: Kyle Pitts + D’Andre Swift ←→ Tre Harris + ‘26 2nd Round Pick
TRADE #2: Kyle Pitts ←→ Chris Godwin
TRADE #3: Kyle Pitts + Jaylen Waddle + ‘26 3rd Round Pick ←→ Garrett Wilson + ‘26 2nd Round Pick
So you made it this long and hopefully you enjoyed it (that’s what she said). If you wouldn’t mind sharing this in your group message with your fellow dynasty degenerates I would greatly appreciate it!
